Life is a Song!
The band I’ve been listening to has me entranced. They played Nashville not to long ago to rave reviews, so I checked them out. They’re a mix of rockabilly, country, blue-grass, and soul all rolled up into one neat little bundle. Mumford and Sons has a way of capturing emotions that are hard to grapple with in a succinct kernel of wisdom. There’s very little mysticism and the words aren’t scrambled so you can divine your own meaning. It’s blatant and universal to us all.
I’ve listed the lyrics to Awake My Soul below and highlighted the best of (to me) in red.
How fickle my heart and how woozy my eyes
I struggle to find any truth in your lies
And now my heart stumbles on things I don’t know
This weakness I feel I must finally showLend me your hand and we’ll conquer them all
But lend me your heart and I’ll just let you fall
Lend me your eyes I can change what you see
But your soul you must keep, totally free
Har har, har har, har har, har harIn these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die
Where you invest your love, you invest your life
In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die
Where you invest your love, you invest your life
Awake my soul, awake my soul
Awake my soul
You were made to meet your maker
Awake my soul, awake my soul
Awake my soul
You were made to meet your maker
You were made to meet your maker
The kernel of truth I glean from this song: Yes…we were all meant to meet our maker, the living DO invest our love, and where we put our love IS where we invest our lives – whether we realize it or not.
Where is your love invested? Work, school, religion, self, family? What about the object(s) of your affection(s)? Are they aware you are investing in them? Do they reciprocate?
