Sucker Punched
Why is it when we are at our highest high, just about to move into greatness, just about to take that fateful step that will lead us to our life’s calling, or just about to embark on one of life’s great journeys that we get sucker punched right in the face? I got punched in the face, and it’s called heartbreak.
Heartbreaking is reserved for an elite few. Only people you love can break your heart. At the time, you feel as if you’re the only one who’s ever suffered heartbreak, but eventually it happens to us all. A verse in Psalm 22 perfectly describes heartbreak.
Psalm 22 14I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.
What could possibly heal something like that? The Lord will.
Psalm 23
1The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
May the Lord restore your soul today, and give you the strength to go on in the path that he has planned for you.
