Inspiration for people who feel defeated

Lately, I’ve heard from many people who feel defeated. They feel like giving up. They feel like the battle has already been fought, and they’ve already lost.

Have you ever had conversations play out in your head long before you have them, as if you already know what’s going to happen? That’s a trap. It’s a trap of the enemy to get you to concede before the battle is over.

I’ve been guilty of that, but no more.  It affects your attitude and your expectations. It lowers your expectations, and diminishes your attitude.

If you’re going to play out a battle in your head, see yourself as the victor. See yourself winning, see yourself completing, see yourself succeeding.  Better yet, go in with the attitude that you will do your very best, and leave consequences to themselves.

Finally, here’s a clip from one of my favorite movies, “Facing the Giants”. I would recommend it to anyone, and suggest you rent it ASAP if you haven’t seen it.

PS The makers of this movie are releasing a new picture this Friday, September 30th, called Courageous. Why not take it in? I’m going.

What’s the biggest traps you’ve fallen into that make you feel defeated? How did you overcome them?

  1. Reminds me of the time I had to go see the lawyer to file bankruptcy.I felt lower than dirt and to top it all off my wife had just told me she was pregnant with twins.I had been working 7 days a week to get us a home and her a car to go to the doc in.I had a new truck to go to work in but was having to run it on yard sale tires. The years after that were my “Death Crawl” She lost the twins,She left me,I kept on until I got discharged from the bankruptcy and paid off the house. When I got my discharge in the mail I cried. All that and the tax thing.I came out on top of that one.Grim Determination and most of all the help of God.

  2. Thanks for sharing Nick, and yes, God is what gets you through. Many, many people have and are having to file for bankruptcy. There is NO shame in that. It is a legal procedure that is meant to protect. It would be nice if we never had to go into debt, but in this economy many people don’t have much of a choice if they want food, clothing and shelter. In a ‘every man for himself’ society – you have to do what you have to do – there is no shame in that. Some people gasp when they hear someone say they filed for bankruptcy – what they hear is ‘bankruptcy’ they don’t often hear what leads up to it: Medical bills that Steve Jobs might have trouble paying (especially with no job), a job loss or a dramatic decrease in pay, and illness or disability, or worse…. The stereotype is that someone is running from their responsibilities to ‘live it up’. What people don’t realize until it happens to themselves is that you filing for protection from predators while you are living to fulfill your responsibilities as a husband, father, citizen, and respectable child of God. It’s impossible to heal when you have sharks eating at you….

  3. I did the 100% payback type but some weeks when we would be off a day I would only get a stub that said void.Me and my dad worked laying rock on days it was so cold water was freezing around my shoes.Rough times but I made it and I will make it again. With the Lords help of course.
